What’s For Dinner Flex (3)
Planning and preparing a healthy meal for the family is often something we don’t learn until we have families of our own. But why? Kids who are involved in meal preparation tend to be more open to trying new foods and eat better, healthier meals throughout their lives.
In this class, a flexible schedule version of my popular What’s For Dinner tonight class, I will provide a weekly video of step-by-step preparations of a dinner to serve a family of 4-6 members. Meals will include a variety of different foods and spices in each meal so that kids and their families can try possibly new-to-them foods. I will give students tips and tricks to making their meal and encourage safe food preparation practices.
*Students with special dietary restrictions and/or larger or smaller family sizes should contact me prior to class beginning to discuss necessary recipe adjustments.
Kids will be using a variety of cooking tools including the stovetop and oven, measuring cups and spoons, knives, etc. I will provide a grocery list 1 week before class begins or earlier upon request. All ingredients should be easily found at your local grocery store. Basic cooking tools will be needed (i.e. measuring cups/spoons, pots, pans, etc.) Students must have all ingredients for the meal for the week. Detailed supply list with ingredients and recipe will be provided as pdf’s in the classroom upon enrollment.
- Week 1: Moroccan Chicken, apricot, and almond casserole
- Week 2: North Carolina pulled pork, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes
- Week 3: Lettuce Wraps
- Week 4: Orange Salmon with Ginger sauce, cooked rice, and steamed broccoli
I LOVE food pictures and ask each child to post a picture or video of their dinner presentation in the classroom. I ask that students write a brief review of the meal their overall success in preparing the meal, and any tips or tricks they have for their classmates. I will respond to each post and encourage students to engage with their classmates about their dinners.
