Art Journaling CAMP
Sir Richard Branson said, “If you have a thought and don’t write it down, by the next morning it may be gone forever.” Many great people throughout time have used the power of visual journals to record their thoughts, ideas, feelings, and impressions of life. Based on my popular, weekly Art Journaling class, this free form class encourages and often challenges students to exercise their creative thinking while applying it to their personal art journals.
**Please note – prompts and challenges will be different for each section of this class. Students are invited to enroll in multiple sections and will be inspired with a new and different theme every day.
In this CAMP, we will use an art journal to explore, experiment, and exercise our creative thoughts. Each day we will meet and students will be given a prompt to base their creation around. Students will also be given a specific challenge to incorporate into their artwork meant to encourage students to try a new art medium or problem-solve a way to incorporate an element into their idea.
Together we will spend the first 5-10 minutes of class discussing possible interpretations of the prompt and look at visual examples of others’ creative work for inspiration. The remainder of class will be spent listening to music from around the world and applying individual ideas, techniques, and artistic experimentations to our own creations. This is a very free-form class that allows for a great amount of individuality and self-expression.
Most of our class time will be creating together. Students should come to class prepared to create.
Students are encouraged to share their artwork either at the end of class, the beginning of the next class, or by posting in the classroom. No one is required to share.
